Injectable Contraceptives, Menstrual DisordersAbstrak
Family planning programs aimed at birth control have been neglected following the implementation of regional autonomy. Consequently, Indonesia is experiencing a population surge or "baby boom." Theoretically, users of one-month injectable contraceptives may maintain normal menstrual patterns or experience changes in their patterns. Users of three-month injectable contraceptives may experience menstrual disturbances, such as shortened or prolonged cycles, heavy or light bleeding, irregular bleeding or spotting, or even a complete absence of menstruation (amenorrhea). This study aimed to determine the relationship between the use of injectable contraceptives and menstrual disturbances within the working area of the Kembang Tanjong Community Health Center (Puskesmas), Pidie Regency, in 2023. This was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all 126 mothers using injectable contraceptives in the Kembang Tanjong Community Health Center's working area; a sample of 32 participants was selected using the Slovin formula and accidental sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and processed through editing, coding, entry, and tabulation; analysis involved frequency distribution tables, cross-tabulation, and narrative description. Chi-square statistical test results indicated a significant relationship between the use of injectable contraceptives and menstrual disturbances among users (p-value = 0.002; p ≤ 0.05). It is recommended that mothers using injectable contraceptives improve their knowledge regarding the method so that they are fully aware of and understand the associated benefits and drawbacks.
